Deleuze and Goth Mommy ASMR

This is the meme that rots my brain: 

We start with Ryan Gosling’s character from Blade Runner 2048, smirking as he peers into a machine. The caption reads “‘I love being alone’ ‘Also me when I’m Alone.” After a couple seconds, the clip switches, and an anime girl captioned with: “Goth Mommy Whispers Rubs your hair By the Fire Place and Calls you a Good Boy” appears. The audio changes to “it’s ok baby, it’ll all be alright.” 

Odd, but not without its companions. 

Another similar meme begins with a blonde girl watching a motorcyclist in the distance. She turns to the camera and says: “He’s so dark and mysterious.” Again, a sudden cut, and we see that the motorcyclist is listening to “Your Girlfriend Hits You With a Frying Pan.” In the accompanying audio, a woman whispers “sweet dreams, baby” before it explodes into the sound of metal hitting (presumably) the fictive characters head. 

So, the question my sublime brain rot feels compelled to ask is: what’s with this proliferation of SFW goth mommy content?

Critical theory is not ready for Deleuze and Goth Mommy Asmr to be discussed in the same essay. Who better to make this leap than the Goblin. Sublime brainrot is the only theoretical framework that can put these two powerful forces into conversation.

The connection is there if you look closely. Read through Deleuze’s oeuvre and you’ll find Masochism, a critical analysis of both Masoch and De Sade. Less musical than Anti-Oedipus, but not without its own colorful moments. 

Its an easy place to start, but not without its problems. Deleuze’s work on Masoch does offer some decent parallels. While there is some similarity between the “Goth Mommy” in the “Goth Mommy ASMR” and the typical Masoch woman with “a well-developed muscular figure, a proud nature, an imperious will and a cruel disposition even in their moments of tenderness and naivete” the real, uncanny, semblance comes from the total lack of obscenity in these obscene texts. Deleuze works through the form of both De Sade and Masoch. Where De Sade comes in excessive, grandiose paragraphs of untempered, NSFW repetition, Masoch,textures his worth with more mellow tones. 

He’s more of a sad boi: a little ethereal and unhinged. He probably rocks an aquarius sign somewhere in his chart. 

De Sade writes descriptions that make you want to curl up in a fetal position. Masoch is a little more subtle. The obscene takes place on the periphery. Masoch’s true gift is his capacity to inculcate his work with an atmospheric suspense. Atmospheric suspense rather than suspenseful atmosphere because the suspense is not one part, but interwoven into the whole story. Deleuze characterizes the suspension like this: “We are now in a position to account for the absence of obscene descriptions in the work of Masoch. The function of the descrip­tions subsists, but any potential obscenity is disavowed or sus­pended [...] What remains is a strange and oppressive atmosphere, like a sickly perfume per­ eating the suspense and resisting all displacements” (34).  Again, we have the atmospheric. Perfume is correct: it envelops. Sight may be too limited a faculty to describe it. Sound has the elasticity to really consider this atmosphere of suspense. 

We’re talking about immersion: Ryan Reynolds, the mysterious motorcyclist, what defines their experience is the totalizing quality of sound. Its Dyonysian, swallowing everything up in its sphere. Perfume, yes, but if Deleuze wrote masochism in 2025 he’d do better to describe the atmosphere as a soft whisper into a microphone, reverberating through bass boosted headphones.

Time to consider some real, authentic, SFW Goth Mommy Asmr. I’m pulling from a script I found by looking up “goth mommy asmr script” and choosing the first reddit thread available. Even in this short script, we see the progeny of Masoch in action.

The Goth Mommy in Goth Mommy ASMR conducts herself with the comportment of a authentic Masoch heroine. Bigger, stronger, slightly diabolical, her flirtation circles back to her being stronger and more assertive than the listener. The goth mommy makes the first move. She reassures the listener, asking them not to worry about their flaws. Dig this: 

“I don't care what your body looks like cutie, you don't need to be able to lift a semi with your pinky in order to get me to like you. I kind of like that you're thin anyways, I can wrap my arms all the way around you and pull you in tight. (she's actually doing it) Just like this!”

Even in the physical touch, sexuality remains peripheral. The physical contact comes from the Goth Mommy showing the listener how her strength compares to their own. Like a Mascoch heroine, the Goth Mommy, even when saying something sweet, remains threatening. Pulled from the same Reddit SFW script, the Goth Mommy goes on to say: 

“I love it when you blush like that, now that we're dating I'll have to get you red like this more often.”

Saccharine, infuriatingly wholesome, this is the Goth Mommy’s control over the listeners emotions and body. Whats so interesting about Goth Mommy ASMR, is that the listener figures as the character in the narrative. A Masoch character is not the reader. The audience figures into a Masoch story just as with any writing practice, but not to the extent that it does in Goth Mommy ASMR. 

The listener is not just told a story, they participate in the story.  They are the one being told by the goth mommy that everything this alright while being the one listening to a goth mommy tell someone it will be alright. 

Its insufferably meta and leaves me with bleak despair.
